“THE SILK ROAD”
FAIRFIELD COUNTY’S 2007 ASIAN PACIFIC AMERICAN ART
EXHIBITION
Open to the Public at the Rich Forum
May 1 through June 30th
Stamford, CT, April 5, 2007 – The vast network of trade routes
linking the people and traditions of Asia with those of Europe,
historically known as “The Silk Road,” is the theme
of Fairfield County’s 2007 Asian Pacific American Art Exhibition
at the Stamford Center for the Arts. The exhibition is curated by
Picture That, LLC, a cultural fine art consulting company headquartered
in Stamford and sponsored by General Electric Company.
“The Silk Road” will showcase art in a variety of
mediums, including, photography, drawings, paintings, sculpture
and tapestries. Fairfield County artists, as well as regional and
international artists will display artwork reflecting the diverse
cultures of the Mediterranean world, Persia, India, Central Asia,
China, Korea and Japan. Each piece of art is its own unique interpretation
of the historic routes of “The Silk Road” that transported
silk, art, ceramic, crafts, scientific and technological innovations
between East and West.
“The Silk Road” will officially open on May 1 and run
through June 30 at the Stamford Center for the Arts’ Richard
and Hinda Rosenthal Gallery of the Rich Forum, located at 307 Atlantic
Street, in downtown Stamford. The gallery is open to the public
Monday through Saturday,10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, and Sunday, from Noon
to 5:00 PM.
A community reception to officially open the art exhibition at
the Rich Forum will take place on Wednesday, May 16 from 6:00 PM
until 8:00 PM in the Rosenthal Gallery. This county-wide event,
sponsored by General Electric’s employee group—GE Tri-state
Asian Pacific American Forum, is free and open to the public, and
will feature refreshments, music and an opportunity to meet the
participating artists.
In addition to the art exhibition and opening reception, students
from Stamford, Darien and Norwalk public schools will display their
artwork with accompanying literature that reflects “The Silk
Road” theme at a special reception preceding the community-wide
reception from 5:00 to 6:30 PM, which the public is also invited
to attend.
